Itinerary at a Glance

  • DAY 1/2.  Havana.  The colorful capital of Cuba, is a mesmerizing city with beautiful colonial edifices and a dramatic coastline. Known for its architecturally impressive plazas and outstanding series of fortifications, Old Havana displays Cuban culture at its finest.  Cuba was almost blacked out of the map for Americans, but Cuba’s colorful history and culture associations comes through.  Our time in Havana includes a visit to the Hemingway Estate and artist studios.

  • DAY 3/4.  Cienfuegos  & Trinidad de Cuba.  Cienfuegos, “the Perl of the South”, is a charming community ideally situated along the southern coast of Cuba. Originally settled by French immigrants in 1819. Our stop in this picturesque city will include a guided exploration of the Historic District and local art cooperatives before heading east to Trinidad de Cuba. Located in south central Cuba, between the mountains of the Escambray Range and the Caribbean Sea, the town of Trinidad is a well-preserved view of old world Cuba. Founded in 1514, the town is lined with cobbled streets, neo-classical buildings, and exquisitely wrought iron railings.  A must see is the Valley of the Sugar Mills (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), once the center of sugar production, and now populated with the ruins of  sugar mill mansions.   Free time to  explore art studios and the city’s renowned colonial museums.

  • DAY 5/6.  Santi Spiritus  &  Camagüey. Sancti Spíritus is Cuba’s underdog city, the least known and least visited of the seven founding villas. Gritty and light on tourists, its grid of hard-bitten streets were given a comprehensive makeover in 2014. A brief

walkabout will reveal scrubbed cobbled lanes and colonial edifices repainted in a rainbow of brilliant Caribbean colors.  Founded in February 1514, Camagüey has long been a regional contrarian counterbalancing the confidence of Havana with the brooding sedition of Santiago. The city’s modern renaissance began in 2008 when the old colonial center,  notable for its unusual labyrinthine street layout and a generous slew of baroque churches, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. With a 500th birthday to celebrate, Camagüey’s rehabilitation rocketed.

  •      DAY 7/8.   Havana.  Returning to Havana with stops en route             we arrive late in the day.  We will enjoy our Farewell Dinner as          we prepare for our return flights the next day.
